Better Breathing explores the benefits of breathing techniques using social media filters. It is designed to simplify the way users understand how their breath affects their bodies.
My installation featured Interactive NFC Posters that allowed users to automatically download a digital version by placing their phones over each poster. NFC, or near field communication, is a popular wireless technology that is used to transfer data, share media and more between two devices that are in proximity. I used this method of interaction instead of QR codes because it is proved to be the most accessible and inclusive for users within a diverse audience. It automatically populates data onto any smart device.
THE ROSE QUARTZ SPHERE
The Rose Quartz Sphere is used to aid meditation practices involving deep breath-work. This transformative modern technique uses the Rose Quartz Sphere to access the gut while meditating to reach within ourselves. The gut is the harbor of our emotions and gut health is essential to overall well-being. Partnering with the local company Glacce allowed me to conduct extensive user research about their crystals and how they worked to benefit meditation practices.I wanted to highlight this unique style of meditation while still promoting traditional practices to take place that do not depend on physical products.
The Breathing Techniques.
In collaboration with Sharon Leslie, the co-owner of Glacce, I created videos that matched the breath-work patterns I made filters for. These videos were presented at the installation and were available for users to take digital versions of through the use of NFC tags. The videos were intented to give users a sense of how to use their breath in alignment with the filters.
The audience.
The final points of interaction in my installation included three face filters that I created for users to interact with using Spark AR now Meta Spark. Two of the face filters are focused on breathing techniques and one features crystal iconography. The filters continue to live on social media where it has been viewed throughout different parts of the world. My overall goal was successful in bringing awareness to breath-work and meditation.
